This case study was conducted for an eight-year-old boy living with a foster family who showed developmental delay. Play therapy was administered for 38 sessions. He was referred to a foster family center because he showed anxiety, tension, withdrawal, and developmental delay. He had problems with adjustment to school and difficulties in social relations. The psychological test of Full Battery was administered to check overall psychological state. The play therapy allowed the child to experience interactive relations in safe and receptive environments and express negative emotion, helping him to promote emotional attachment to his foster parents and further enhance his autonomy and self-expression. The author tried to build a trust-based relationship with him through careful reflective listening and unconditional acceptance and helped him to express negative emotion and form emotional security. His rigid emotion was relaxed as he experienced full acceptance. Outcomes of the therapy included reduced self-talk and decreased anxiety. He maintained positive relations in his school, which facilitated developmental improvement. He improved relations in his foster family and relationship with his father was also improved.
